Do they have a thing where you get a number when you come in, and then they, after eternity, call your number?

That looks like hell. I had to go today to renew registration and with about 6 people in front of me I was out in around  15 minutes.

That is how ours works, and I swear the room looks just like the picture above.  Just remember there was a time we did these things without our personal amusement devices with us, say what you will about the age of constant connectivity, but at the DMV or the Dr.s office they make life so much better.

Yes. They gave me B131. They were on B101. "Just sit down, Baby," the scanner said. LOL nope. I wanted to buy two one-trip permits. Should be a cash-and-carry transaction.

You can make an appointment online at o ur DMV. Last couple of times, I came in 5-10 minutes early, got called within minutes. It’s great!

I went in to get a new title once I’d paid off my car. The particular location I picked had apparently just reopened after being closed for a week. There were people in every chair and sitting against the wall down the hallway. After two hours my particular letter sequence (say, B125)  had progressed 5 numbers because only one employee was working on B-related items so I gave up. Went to a different location on my way to work the next morning and was out in five minutes. (Unrelated, but at the first location about a third of the people waiting were reinstating licenses after a DUI suspension...pretty terrifying)

WI doesn’t so I was amazed when I moved to CO.  Making things easier for the public?  Never heard of such a thing before.

It’s really amazing to me how they plan for failure. Like there should never be that many seats, because the idea they are going to keep that many people waiting should be abhorrent to the people running the show. The baseline level of service is just way to low, and they should fix it, even if it means increasing fees. Imagine if you went into a bank and it looked like that...

In AZ we gave private party deals that can handle everything except licenses. You pay a bit extra but I’ve never had to wait in line. You can print three day registration  right off the DMV website.

That guy’s vintage niners jacket is pretty sweet, though.

Well, doctors' offices at least had a selection of 4-5 year old issues of Time and Redb ook with some pages torn out.

My addresses were apparently out of date  and the only portal said my info wasn’t right, because of a different area code I now know. Usually they send a post card with a pin and it’s super easy. I swear I changed it but I guess my drivers license and car registration are separate entities for addresses

The address for your license and your car registration being different, is what got me last time.

Yes, they have that in Ca. as well. You can talk to them on the phone the same way; call and then get a call back.

This is the Hayward DMV, a contender for the worst DMV office in the state, IMO.

Yes, very uneven. This picture is taken in Hayward. If I drove to Concord and get there at 7:45 am, I’m out very quickly.

Yeah, well, the bank is a profit making enterprise where DMV is a government service. Ca DMV does okay , if you have time to make a call, make an appointment, et cetera.

I feel like a loser  when I sit in a chair at at DMV. Not because I think ill of anyone in any of the other chairs, but because I think I ought to be doing more with my life.

There’s no reason why government services can’t provide good service though.

Nor is there any reason a reasonable person should not hold that expectation.
